Hear from two HR Alliance DC members from Serco Inc. how they have been able to engage and maximize their membership!
What value comes from being a member and member organization of HR Alliance DC?Alyse Johnson, an Employee Experience Analyst at Serco Inc., and Kerrie Ford, an HR Communications Manager at Serco Inc., share the impact of being part of the HR Alliance community.
1. Access to Great Speakers & Programming for Our Employees
Kerrie Ford, HR Communications Manager, Serco Inc.
I'm an HR communications manager at Serco. Serco has found a lot of value in joining HR Alliance from an organizational perspective. HR Alliance brings in so many great speakers. They're always timely and relevant to HR topics that we're exploring at Serco at the time, and we like to use that membership to bring others from the organization in so that they can gain that experience and understand the HR perspective on a lot of the issues and a lot of the topics that they're discussing in their organizations. We bring members from our HR team who also truly enjoy these topics that are being discussed.
2. Intentional Ways to Be Visible & Shape Programming
Kerrie Ford, HR Communications Manager, Serco Inc.
Personally, from a professional development standpoint, I've loved being a member of HR Alliance. I've even joined the programming committee, and I've found it is a great way to network with a lot of other HR professionals. Many of these people on the committee are very experienced and they have an entire breadth of knowledge that, as someone whose mid-career is extremely important for me to be able to tap into, it's been a really valuable experience for me.
3. The HR Alliance Community Enhances Professional Development
Alyse Johnson, Employee Experience Analyst
As an early career professional, having access to this community of knowledge sharing has been extremely impactful. I'm able to not only share what initiatives we're doing at Serco, but also gain insights from others in the field with similar knowledge and roles and even passions.
I've had the opportunity to join HR Alliance's membership committee for the 2024 calendar year, and I'm extremely excited about this opportunity to learn from fellow HR professionals and share knowledge about how we're managing our membership programs within our own company.
4. HR Alliance Programming Increases Awareness of HR and Its Value
Alyse Johnson, Employee Experience Analyst
Our Serco employees have been able to attend multiple HR Alliance events. This year, we've been able to send over a dozen employees to events from teams ranging from human resources, benefits, DE&I, workforce management, communications, pricing, and more, which has been impactful for spreading awareness and even this knowledge across different parts of the business.
5. Insightful & Actionable Thought Leadership for Senior Leaders
Kerrie Ford, HR Communications Manager
My favorite event was “Breaking Down Barriers: Understanding the unique needs of individuals who have barriers entering the workforce”. And this event was particularly impactful for Serco because we had representatives from our Disability Employee Resource Group, our Early Career Employee Resource Group, our Multicultural Employee Resource Group, and even our Women's Employee Resource Group attend that event. And we gained so much insight into how we can better navigate our programs and reach to our members.
Our CCO team attended “Never Lose an Employee Again”, and this event was extremely relevant to our own company initiatives. We recently launched a World-class first year experience program at Serco called Serco Spark. This presentation emphasized the importance of the work that we are already doing. CCOs Spark is a first-year experience program filled with key milestones and making sure that new hires have a consistent experience at our company. Not only did this presentation from Joey Coleman give us practical tools and give us best practices to use within our own company, but we also left with a free book titled Never Lose an Employee Again, filled with practical tips and tricks.
