Rapidly growing and vibrant small company in the Washington DC area working in unique technology fields, is looking for an HR assistant. Individuals with an HR background or eager to learn are welcome to apply. In addition, the company will be transitioning to employee ownership and the assistant will participate in this unique experience.
Hours/Schedule: 20-25 hours/week
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Location Requirements: Hybrid. Work from home but occasional office work will be needed in Fairfax.
Rate: $25-30/hour
Job Description: Interacting with employee base on a wide variety of tasks including managing an HRIS, keeping track of absences (PTO, military leave, FMLA), pay, bonuses and benefits, onboarding individuals, maintaining a SharePoint HR file system, supporting policy development and/or handbook updates, strategic initiatives etc. Additional tasks and details as outlined below.

Requirements |
Responsibilities:
- Conducts new hire orientation and onboarding activities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation
- Primary point of contact for our HR information system
- Assist in maintaining HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Stays updated on HR best practices, employment laws, and industry trends to ensure compliance and provide recommendations for process improvements
- Assists with the benefit enrollment processes, 401k administration and policy-related questions.
- Completes wage and employment verification requests
- Support the recruiting team and/or facility security team as needed
- Offboarding employees
- Time Keeping- coordinate & monitor timesheets & approvals including flex time
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Prior office administration experience including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with utmost professionalism
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive and able to work independently from home and collaboratively in a team environment
Desired Skills/Abilities
- Prior experience in an HR administrative role or similar position is preferred
- Supporting HR, recruiting and/or payroll
- Prior experience with HR software systems, with the ability to navigate and extract data
- Prior experience working in government contracting
