Program Description

During this program, Gurjit Jan will first set the stage by reviewing the basic principles and components of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and RE (Racial Equity), including how they differ and overlap. The session will also touch on affirmative action as it relates to EEO and RE activities. Specifically, we will consider how RE initiatives, while well-intentioned, can run afoul of EEO regulations and employment/labor laws. Finally, we explore situations where these activities may result in racial preference in the workplace.

At the end of our discussion, you will:

  • Understand the basics of EEO, RE and affirmative action
  • Appreciate how RE initiatives may violate or jeopardize employment discrimination laws/EEO regulations
  • Develop programs and strategies to promote accessibility and inclusion
