Arrive early for an opportunity to meet new people!
Brian C. Castrucci, DrPH, will discuss the important role that HR professionals have in cultivating a culture of health in our workplaces. Workforce illness costs businesses hundreds of billions of dollars each year; a number likely to grow post pandemic with increasing numbers of people experiencing mental illness such as anxiety, depression, and substance abuse disorder. While it may be tempting to revamp employer wellness programs to combat these costs, evidence shows that these programs – however well-intended – cannot address the root causes of employees’ illnesses. Specifically, Dr. Castrucci will discuss the intersection of an employee’s workplace with their community and how this intersection impacts employee health and wellbeing. He will discuss how healthy communities positively impact business, and how HR professionals can be at the forefront of co-creating workplaces that support a healthy society, and a society enabling everyone to thrive.
- Describe the role of policy in promoting worker health
- Identify community-based strategies that HR professionals can explore to improve employee health
- Discuss the critical role that HR professionals have in advancing the idea that community health is the new workplace wellness
