- review the current and future state of harassment law and suggest priorities for HR Management in the #metoo environment;
- distill the practical and legal elements of a sound internal investigation process and plan; and
- discuss the elements of create a Speak Up culture and HR’s role as culture-leader in promoting an environment of integrity and transparency.

represents employers in a wide range of issues related to employment law. As a former chief human resources officer, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Executive Vice President, Misti’s 27 years of business and employment law experience integrates a practical, value-oriented approach.
Misti actively partners with CEOs, CFOs, COOs, CAOs, human resources professionals and in-house lawyers to develop creative and strategic solutions to a variety of employment law and risk management issues. These include employment discrimination, performance management, reductions in force, ethics, FMLA/ADA and leave management, policies and procedures, crisis response and human resources legal compliance. Misti regularly negotiates and drafts employment-related agreements, including executive contracts, severance packages and non-competition and confidentiality covenants. Misti is also a skilled internal investigator and a dynamic and accomplished management and employee trainer.
Misti is consistently recognized for her excellent work. She has repeatedly been selected to be included in the Best Lawyers in America© for Employment Law, Virginia’s Labor and Employment “Legal Elite” (Virginia Business magazine) and Virginia and Washington DC “Super Lawyers®” for Employment and Labor Law (Law and Politics magazine). The Fairfax Law Foundation has commended Misti’s exceptional commitment to her community by awarding her the “Golden Gavel” award. She is a current Trustee of the Anne Arundel Health System and past Chairman of the Board and Director of Northern Virginia Family Service. Dedicated to the advancement of education, Misti served as Trustee of The Madeira School and as an Advisory Board member of Marymount University Reston Campus. She has been a mentor, coach and Commencement speaker for students of Training Futures, a nationally-recognized workforce development program. Misti currently serves on the Advisory Board of the CARE (Companies as Responsive Employer) Awards.
After graduating from the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin, Misti received her law degree from the University of Texas. She entered private practice in 1991.
