Name & Title: Julia Medvin, Director, HR Operations, Venture Global LNG

Brief Job Description: Julia has many years of experience in human resources working both in corporate and consulting roles.  Over the years she has touched many areas of HR both domestic and international and gained extensive subject matter expertise in global strategy, mergers and acquisitions, governance, program design and financial management.  She has extensive experience working with executive teams to drive Human Capital Strategy and collaborating across different corporate functions (e.g. finance, payroll, etc.) and local country teams to execute employee centric programs.  In her current role Julia is responsible for standing up HR operations for an Energy start-up company.  Her primary focus is to design and impellent tools, processes and procedures that help employees be productive at work, be engaged with their teams and drive business to success.

Personal Interests: Outside of work Julia enjoys playing tennis, learning tango and spending time with her family outdoors.  Julia is very passionate about mentoring and is always open to new mentoring relationships.  Julia is also fluent in Russian.

Brief Job Description: Friderike is a successful serial entrepreneur and intrapreneur, who built several businesses in the travel, IT and communication industry before applying her experience to leadership development and professional performance improvement as a trainer, facilitator and coach. She brings extensive management expertise, a genuine appreciation for diversity, curiosity around culture and the power of words, positive psychology, a heart-centered, practical, people-focused approach, and flexibility to leadership development and executive coaching engagements. Brief Job Description: Elizabeth has over 25 years of experience in the field of strategic global talent acquisition and management within world-class organizations, spanning a variety of industries to include aerospace & defense, professional/managed services, not for profit and telecommunications.  She has successfully developed recruiting infrastructures that supported unprecedented growth, profitability, and critical business objectives in companies such as Cable & Wireless Global, Accenture, American Red Cross, Orbital ATK (formally Orbital Sciences Corporation), Serco Inc., GDIT, and most recently Centauri.  Elizabeth is recognized as a leader with a passion for the projects, for the company, and for the people involved in the efforts and understands that this care is her differentiator.

Name & Title: Jason A. Salamon is Vice President of Human Resources and Training at Edgewood and Vantage Management.

Brief Job Description: Jason has over 20 years of experience spanning all aspects of the Human Resources field.  After nearly ten years with Hyatt Hotels Corporation and two years with Central Parking Corporation, Jason spent eight years at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) where he served as Vice President/Director of Human Resources for a Business Unit of 3,500 employees. Jason shifted to the real estate industry in 2013 through a role as Vice President of Human Resources for the Washington, DC division of NY-based REIT Vornado Realty Trust.  Jason joined the executive team of Edgewood/Vantage, a leading residential property management company, in July 2017.

Other Accomplishments/Memberships: Jason is an active member of SHRM and holds the Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification.  From HRCI, he holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification.

Education: Jason has a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from the George Washington University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Human Resources Management from American University 

Personal Interests: Jason is active on the Board of Directors for both his synagogue and his children's school.  He is an enthusiastic fan of his kids’ team sports activities, loves movies, and is an avid watcher of Seinfeld reruns, Homeland and Survivor.


Name & Title: Alex Allen Cisco Customer Experience Inclusion and Collaboration Leader

Brief Job Description: Leading Diversity and Inclusion programs and initiatives to increase awareness across  Cisco’s Customer Experience business unit (17,000 employees) - this includes driving the adoption of both new and existing Cisco and Customer Experience - specific programs, as well as increasing skills and capabilities throughout the organization. Partner with Executives and with the Office of Inclusion and Collaboration (OIC) to ensure we attract, hire, and advance a diverse workforce.  His published works include blog posts for Cisco such as can be found HERE.

Adept developer of Human Capital strategies that unify a workplace culture, enhancing employee engagement and increasing the retention and attraction of top talent.

Personal Interests: In 2014 while volunteering with Ellicott City Soccer club, developed a Soccer Program for children with Special Needs.  The program started with 7 special players and has grown to 60 special players. The program pairs special needs children with normally developing children where both parties learn and enjoy the experience.  I’m an avid sports fan and enjoy spending time with my wife and two boys!

Brief Job Description: As Sr Leader for Noblis, Dan is responsible for enterprise Talent Strategy, Talent Acquisition, resource management and employee relations.  He has extensive experience as a human resources partner guiding talent management strategy for technology firms.  Dan’s accomplishments include recruiting top talent, executive search, increasing employee engagement, change management and promoting & establishing a positive culture.  Dan is well-versed in workforce and succession planning.  Dan has extensive HR Advisor experience in the Federal Government Contracting business, to include Department of Defense (DOD), intelligence community, and Health & Federal Civilian areas.

Personal Interests: Outside of work, Dan is very active with family, children’s school, and middle-school church group.  Loves to exercise, read and travel.
Name & Title: Anja Nickel, Financial Services Agent, New York Life Insurance Company

Brief Job Description: Anja Nickel started her Career as a New York Life Financial Services Professional in 2014. Her practice focuses on working closely with individuals, families and businesses to create financial security and protection through comprehensive insurance planning. She works closely with HR professionals to help enhance their company’s existing benefits while minimizing costs. Anja has successfully lead and and conducted benefit enrollments of 600+ employees acting as organizer and liaison across departments. 

Other Accomplishments/memberships: Anja was named Rookie of the Year in the DC office and she has been recognized by the company as a distinguished agent every year since she started. She also qualified as an MDRT member in 2018.  Outside of HR Alliance, Anja is the Vice President of the Georgetown BNI Networking group in DC.  She is also one of two Recruitment Specialists for the Junior League of Northern Virginia. 

Education: Anja received her Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing from Penn State University. She also holds two Minors in Psychology and International Business.

Personal Interests: Anja is a travel junkie and loves experiencing new cultures. In her spare time she volunteers, loves to draw, take photos, and play sand volleyball down by the Lincoln Memorial. 

Name & Title: Laurie Price, Senior Manager, Total Rewards, Horizon Therapeutics

Description: Laurie is responsible for the management and execution of Horizon Therapeutic's benefit programs.  Laurie worked for DAI for nearly 10 years.  Laurie’s first job after graduate school was in employee benefits.  For the next 15 years, she worked in HR generalist positions before finding her way back to benefits.

Other Accomplishments/Memberships: Laurie holds the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) credential with Fellowship status as well as a PHR and SHRM-CP certification.   She is a self-described Benefits Geek” and Open Enrollment is her favorite time of year.  She enjoys distilling the complexities of benefit plans into the basics so employees have a solid understanding of their benefits and can maximize coverage for themselves and their families.  

Education: Laurie graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and earned her MA in Organizational Psychology, Columbia University.  

Personal Information & Interests: Laurie is a native New Yorker and has lived in Rockville, MD since 2005.  Outside of work and when not thinking about employee benefits, Laurie is either knitting, baking, doing yoga, listening to live music, or scouting out interesting places for her teenage son to take photographs.

Name & Title: Kathleen Sack, Senior Human Resources Consultant, Smart HR  

Brief Job Description: Kathleen is a strategic HR executive and has over 25 years of leadership experience in human resources in nonprofit and for-profit organizations.  Skilled in all areas of HR, she specializes in talent management and organizational development.  In her current role at Smart HR, she provides expert HR management and customized HR solutions to organizations based in the DC metro area that have less than 150 employees.  Previously, she was a HR executive for Blumont, a international non-profit NGO, KaBOOM! a DC based non-profit and the American Red Cross.  She worked as a consultant for Korn Ferry and owned her own consulting firm for four years focusing on talent management, learning solutions and performance strategies.  Kathleen has other HR leadership experience in retail, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing.

Brief Job Description: Neil Sawyer has 25 years of experience as a Human Resources Professional and Executive Coach.  He has been involved in the oversight of HR strategies and administration in a wide variety of industries.  Neil has an extensive background in all areas of HR.  His experience includes (but is not limited to) employee relations, policy creation and enforcement, recruiting, training design and delivery, compensation, benefits administration and State/Federal employment law.

Personal Interests: Neil characterizes himself as a “travel fanatic”.  His goal is to visit all seven continents.  Neil is also a visual artist and composer.

Brief Job Description:   As CHRO, Clay partners with the CEO, executive management team and the board of directors to develop and execute the overall human capital and talent management strategy, build a strong ethical culture, and support strategic growth objectives for an innovative, leading provider of enterprise solutions to U.S. defense, intelligence, health and civilian government agencies.  Clay has over 30 years of experience leading human resources teams and driving human capital initiatives across all HR functional areas.  Clay is responsible for the development of succession plans, talent acquisition and management, change management, organizational and employee performance management, training and development, security (FSO) and compensation and benefits.

Other Accomplishments/Memberships: Clay has served in executive HR leadership roles in companies such as Hewlett Packard, Leidos, SAIC, L-3 Communications, Winstar Communications, MCI, and BioLab Inc. For a number of years, Clay served on the board of the Washington Women’s Leadership Initiative and he is currently serving on the board of HR Alliance DC. He is a member of the board of directors for BioPharma Global, a non-profit corporation offering FDA & EMA regulatory affairs and professional services. He supports many community and charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s National Veterans Wheelchair Games, the American Heart Association, the Lamb Center of Fairfax, the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s Tech Talent Initiative, and the NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative.

Education: Clay received his bachelor’s degree (with honors) in business administration from the University of Louisville and his master’s in business administration from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.

Personal Interests: Clay is an avid mystery/spy novel reader and enjoys all types of music including playing the piano, learning the guitar and choral music.  He is a former member of the Washington Master Chorale.  For the last 18 years Clay has been involved with his children’s swim team serving as a referee.  Now that his children are older he and his wife plan to enjoy a bit of travel with no kids.
