Idea Exchange - Managing Childcare and Work Expectations

In early April, the HR Alliance Board of Directors launched Wednesday online IDEA EXCHANGES that are open (available) to all HR leaders in the District, Maryland and Virginia. The objective is to provide opportunities for HR leaders to come together and share ideas, strategies and practices to help our profession, our employers and our peers successfully maneuver during these uncertain times.

IDEA EXCHANGES are not seminars, sales pitches or formal programs. They are open platforms for professional dialogue during which breakout sessions will allow exploration of specific topics, and group sharing for all participants. The IDEA EXCHANGE, facilitated by an HR Alliance Board member, will allow participants to specifically discuss a particular topic.

Managing Childcare and Work Expectations

Questions:

  • Childcare shortages and concerns are complicating a return to the workplace for many parents, and the companies that employ them, as the Corona Virus continues to spread and options remain unclear for schools and daycare.  How are your companies assisting and what specific programs or policies have you put in place?
  • Many employers have been offering flexibility and generous leave policies. Still, about half of employees surveyed by APCO Worldwide thought their employer had unrealistic expectations about what they could accomplish while caring for others. How is your organization approaching performance expectations for employees caring for dependents? What about employees that don’t have dependents?
